What RAG is:
RAG stands for raising and giving, it is a university-wide organisation with elected representatives in each college. Goodricke currently has three RAG reps, and we work throughout the year to raise as much money as possible for charities (see below).
What we do:
We organise fundraising events for the college, for instance Goodricke’s got Talent, Drag for RAG bar crawl (with James College), a Krispy Kreme sale, and Mr and Mrs Goodricke. In addition, much of the proceeds from our yearly festival, Goodfest, are donated to RAG. We are also involved with university RAG events, such as RAG week, RAG parade, and Woodstock.
The 2011 RAG charities:
YUSU Volunteering helps students to engage in volunteering whilst studying at York, specifically with children, the community and the elderly.
Shelter works to alleviate the distress caused by homelessness and bad housing, by giving advice, information and advocacy to people in housing need, and by campaigning for lasting political change to end the housing crisis for good.
Candle Lighters is a charity formed and run by parents of children who have or have had cancer, ex-patients and the medical staff who treat them. Based in Yorkshire, Candlelighters provides essential services and support to children with cancer and their families.
Survive work against domestic violence experienced by women and children and promote awareness about domestic violence.
Minds for Health, who aim to tackle mental illness and poverty in developing countries by creating new services, improving access to essential mental healthcare and acting upon the social causes and consequences of mental illness.
MacMillan Cancer Support, who improve the lives of people affected by cancer by providing practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care.
We guarantee that every penny you donate will go towards helping one of these charities!
