Sexual Health

Making sure you know the risks and how to take care of yourself with information and awareness.

We don’t want to tell you how to live your life so here we simply offer a range of resources to make you more aware of sexual health and also what to do if you are concerned about sexual health problems.

At university people are literally throwing sexual health supplies at you free of charge! Here in Goodricke we keep a stock of condoms, personal lubricants and dental dams. You can get these from the box in the JCR in the Nucleus or from a member of the Welfare Team at one of the ‘Goodspace’ welfare drop-ins. Goodspace is an informal opportunity to have a chat with a fellow student on the JCRC in confidence about ANYTHING, including anything to do with sexual health and we’ll hopefully be able to point you in the right direction! We are also able to supply free postal chlamydia tests, these tests are also available online , when using the online service use the Nucleus postcode (YO10 5DD) as court post codes are currently not accepted by the website, the test will then be delivered to the Ron Cooke Hub or the post room in the Nucleus.

The Advice and Support Centre (ASC) in the YUSU Student’s Centre also provides a variety of free condoms, personal lubricants, postal chlamydia tests, dental dams and pregnancy tests, through an agreement with the local health authority. You will also be able to talk to Mel Fox about any welfare issue or e-mail her, m.fox@yusu.org . ASC also have a stock of latex free condoms and dental dams for those students allergic to latex.

Further afield YorSexual Health is the York and North Yorshire sexual health hub with lots of information and resources. As well all the information regarding sexually transmitted infections (STIs) testing and treatment clinics and family planning clinics . They also have details of where to access emergency contraception The nearest place to get emergency contraception is E & C Goran, the pharmacist in Badger Hill (they will charge if you are over 25), or YorClinic, Monkgate where it is free to all.

DON’T FORGET to register with the University Health Centre as well to discuss any sexual health worries with a GP, as well as any other medical problems!
