“All Goodricke students can take part in the College sporting events, whether you are a complete beginner or top sportsperson”.
If playing a particular sport is your passion, our Junior Common Room Committee sports reps are keen to hear from you as early as possible into the academic year (although it’s never too late to start). You may contribute to Goodricke College winning the Inter-College Sports Cup! See the Goodricke Sports Facebook Group for news and updates.

Your Sports Reps and Captains always need new talent in their teams, whether you’re a complete beginner or seasoned professional, the idea of college sports is for all abilities to get together and represent Goodricke .

One-Day Events…
Throughout the year, Goodricke College also participates in several one-day sporting events, such as Athletics, Rugby 10’s, and Swimming .
In the weeks prior to these events, look out for posters and recruiting teams going around blocks, and don’t be shy to sign up and take part with a few friends.
These events are focused completely on the taking part aspect, and the college with the most participants are usually the ones to win! The college cup often swings on how we do in these events, and term 1’s attendance was… non-existant… so we’ll be looking for people to step up in term 2!

Inter-Block Sports
On the second Sunday of Freshers, we will be holding a unique Intra-College Football Tournament , bringing together teams from each of Janet Baker, Kenneth Dixon and Oliver Sheldon, a 2nd years team, 3rd years team, and JCRC team .
Speak to your Block Tutor or Sports Reps to play for your respective team, in what promises to be an epic battle to determine the best block in Goodricke College!
More to come….

If you want to join a University-level sports club or play a sport which is not available at College level (rowing, for example), look at York Sport. They can give you more information on the wide range of sports the University has to offer.
If you’re not interested in team sports but still want to keep fit, you can take part in activities such as dance, fitness training and aerobics classes at the Sports Centre . This is located near James College and the Psychology Building. Either stop by for a chat or find out more on the Sports and Recreation Service website.
